Record GCSE Success for Bede’s as Pupils Combine Academic Rigour with Co-Curricular Excellence

Pupils at Bede’s School in Sussex are celebrating today after delivering another record-breaking performance, securing the school’s best-ever GCSE results.

Just under half (47%) of all grades awarded were at the highest 9–7 level (or equivalent).

Behind these impressive headline figures are remarkable individual achievements that showcase how Bede’s pupils balance academic excellence with rich co-curricular lives.

Immy Oscroft led the cohort with a clean sweep of 12 of the top grade 9s while competing for the school hockey team and participating in Model United Nations (MUN).Eloise Morris also secured an outstanding set of results with seven of the very top grade 9s, two 8s, and two 7s, whilst also playing first team hockey, while Takondwa Simfukwe achieved seven 9s and three 8s while maintaining a demanding training schedule with the Legat Dance Academy. Demonstrating remarkable dedication on and off the court, Pasha Hrytskiv - who joined Bede’s from Ukraine in Year 8 - achieved five top-level grades while competing at an international level in tennis. Other top-performing pupils include Missy Martin-Jenkins, who earned eleven top-tier results with ten grade 9s and one grade 8, Elijah Morris, who secured an outstanding set of results with eight 9s and two 8s; and Joseph Berry, former head pupil at Bede’s Prep, who celebrated eight 9s, three 8s, and a grade 6.Academic departments across the board saw exceptional outcomes. Sciences led the way, with Year 11 pupils achieving a flawless 100% 9-7 pass rate in Biology, Chemistry and Physics, while English Literature saw 65% of grades awarded at 9-7. In the performing arts, 42% of Drama results reached the maximum grade 9, and 100% of BTEC Dance students achieved Distinction Star.

These results reflect Bede’s commitment to personalised learning and finding joy in the pursuit of brilliance. Each week, the School delivers over 100 academic enrichment sessions - including subject clinics, workshops, and lunchtime and after-school extension classes - to support pupils at every stage. This academic foundation is bolstered by a dynamic co-curricular programme featuring activities such as Dissection Club, English Literature Enrichment, the Science and Forensics Academy, Drama Tech and Production, and the Legat Dance Academy, all designed to deepen classroom learning while giving pupils the freedom to explore what they love.

Head, Pete Goodyer praised the cohort's dedication:

'I am immensely proud of our pupils for delivering another historic year of GCSE results. At Bede’s, we firmly believe that when young people are supported to find real joy in their learning, outstanding achievements naturally follow. To see our pupils secure the highest academic grades while excelling on the sports field, in the dance studio, and across our co-curricular provision embodies everything our school stands for. We are delighted that so many of these exceptional young people are staying with us for Sixth Form, where we look forward to watching them grow into confident, ambitious leaders.'

Assistant Head (Academic), Nicholas Abrams, added:

'These results are a testament to our pupils' hard work and our staff's commitment to personalised education. By pairing rigorous academic support - such as our 100+ weekly enrichment sessions - with opportunities to explore individual interests, we help every pupil build confidence and stretch their potential. As the vast majority move up into our Sixth Form, they carry forward not only stellar qualifications, but a genuine passion for learning that will serve them well in their A Level and BTEC studies ahead.'
