Surbiton High School Celebrates Excellent GCSE Results

Surbiton High School is celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE results, with pupils, parents and staff gathering at the school to mark the achievements of the Year 11 cohort.

An impressive 43.5% of all grades awarded were Grade 9, with 70% of grades at Grade 9 to 8 and 89% at Grade 9 to 7. In total, 49 pupils achieved Grade 9 or Grade 8 in every subject they studied, across 26 different subjects.

There were particularly strong results across the core subjects, with 99% of pupils achieving Grade 9 to 7 in either English Language or English Literature, while 94% achieved Grade 9 to 7 in Mathematics.

Specific subject highlights include 99% of pupils achieving a grade 9 – 7 in either English Language or English Literature and 94% of Maths students. 12 subjects achieved over 70% of all grades at Grade 9 – 8, including Biology, Chemistry, Drama, English Language, English Literature, French, Geography, History, Music, Physical Education, Physics and Religious Studies.

The results also demonstrate the significant academic progress pupils make during their time at Surbiton High School. This year’s value-added score of 1.04 means that, on average, pupils achieved more than a grade higher than would have been expected based on their prior attainment.

Through expert teaching, individualised support and a culture of high aspiration, Surbiton High School enables pupils to exceed expectations and fulfil their academic potential.

Matthew Shoults, Principal of Surbiton High School, said:

'It was a pleasure to welcome pupils and families back into School to share in their outstanding achievements at GCSE across a wide range of subjects.

'These results truly demonstrate the commitment and hard work our pupils have put into their GCSE studies, alongside the supportive and inspiring culture here at Surbiton High School. We look forward to their transition into the Sixth Form in September, where they embark on a breadth of academic studies alongside co-curricular and leadership opportunities.'
