King’s Swimmers Achieve Record Breaking Results at National Championships

King’s has secured its place as one of the best-performing swimming schools in England, following their strongest ever set of results at the English Schools’ Swimming Association (ESSA) National Team Championships.

Held in the spectacular 2022 Commonwealth Games pool, this prestigious event brings together the fastest 24 school teams from across England in a series of highly competitive national finals.

The event marked a milestone for King’s, with no fewer than four teams qualifying - the Junior Girls, Junior Boys, Inter Mixed and Senior Boys.

The Junior Boys saw an impressive times in the 4 x 50m Medley relay and 4 x 50m Freestyle relay, going on to finish sixth overall in England in both events.

The Senior Boys set a new long-course senior school record of 01:50.75 in the 4 x 50m Medley relay, finishing in an impressive ninth place nationally, before producing yet another long-course senior school record in the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay, finishing ninth nationally.

The Junior Girls’ team produced an excellent performance in the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay, finishing in a strong 17th place nationally and in 24th in the 4x50m Medley relay.

Elsewhere, the Inter Mixed team delivered an outstanding performance in the 4 x 50m Medley relay final, finishing eighth in England with a superb time of 02:11.01.

Head of Swimming at King’s, Chris Jenkinson, said: 'These National Championships marked the strongest set of results ever at this event for King’s – an achievement that reflects the swimmers’ consistent hard work, commitment and determination, both at school during the King’s Swimming Academy sessions, as well as during their training sessions for their respective swimming clubs.'

The King’s Worcester Swimming Academy has gone from strength to strength since it was formed 18 months ago. The school will soon compete in the ESSA National Water Polo Championships, as well as the newly formed ‘Schools’ Swimming Super League’, as it looks to offer even more aquatic opportunities for its pupils.

Pupils in the Swimming Academy receive specialised swimming coaching in the 25-metre heated indoor pool at King’s, as well strength and conditioning sessions in its state-of-the-art fitness suite. The Academy has strong links with local swimming clubs, with training sessions and swimming camps open to King’s pupils as well as those who swim for local clubs.
