Framlingham College ISI Inspection Report 2026
‘Supportive, inclusive, ambitious’ – Framlingham College receives strong inspection report from ISI
Framlingham College is proud to announce that it has been judged fully compliant in all areas following its latest inspection by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI), the regulatory body for independent schools in England.
The inspection, conducted as a single through-school review, confirmed that Framlingham College successfully met all statutory and regulatory standards across education, safeguarding, leadership, governance, welfare and health and safety.
Inspectors highlighted the College’s strong leadership and management, the effectiveness of its governance, and the calm, inclusive culture that supports pupils’ academic progress, personal development and wellbeing. The report noted that pupils feel safe, supported and known as individuals, and benefit from high expectations, a broad and ambitious curriculum, and a deeply embedded pastoral environment.
Commenting on the report, Principal Louise North said: '
This inspection provides clear, independent validation of what we strive to deliver every day at Framlingham College: astable, ambitious and caring environment where every pupil is known, supported and challenged to be their best. We are proud that the report recognises both our high standards and our commitment to pupil wellbeing and individual development.
'Inspectors have successfully captured the spirit of Framlingham College. The report validates the integrated educational journey from Prep to Senior School and affirms the College’s ambitious learning culture, our focus on the individual and the breadth and blend of opportunities that enable each child to discover and develop their talents to create their own story.'
The ISI is appointed by the Department of Education and inspects more than 1,200 schools across England.
“The school actively promotes opportunities for academic enrichment and extension…through the offer of Extended and Higher Project qualifications and through the scholar’s programme”, the report explains. “[The school] provides an ambitious programme of activities which enables pupils to develop a range of skills. Pupils are interested in their work and engaged in lessons… they take ownership of their own learning and readily explore subjects beyond the confines of the curriculum.
"Pupils who have SEN... receive specific tailored support from well qualified staff who understand their needs. As a result, pupils who have SEN learn and achieve well alongside their peers.”
The report also shines a spotlight on Framlingham College’s award-winning pastoral care, noting how “[In the early year’s foundation stage] there is an appropriate programme of activities… which actively promotes the children’s personal, emotional and physical development. Teachers provide lots of opportunities for children to express their feelings, understand the feelings of others, develop their communication and share ideas. Boarders are well supervised and there is a thorough induction process for new boarders. Staff are trained effectively, including for the care of boarders and the youngest children.”
Louise North has been the principal of Framlingham College since 2019, and her exceptional leadership alongside members of the Senior Leadership Team, showcases resilience, determination and truth in delivering and adapting to the educational needs of modern families and today’s young adults, so that when is comes for our pupils to leave us, they leave with the confidence, knowledge and skills they need to thrive as global citizens in their adult world.
“[Leaders] provide a nurturing and stimulating environment in which pupils, from the youngest children in early years to the oldest pupils in sixth form, learn, achieve and thrive”, the report states. “Leaders encourage pupils to celebrate and share information about their own beliefs. As a result, pupils value diversity and inclusion at the school. Pupils benefit from a strong school ethos of entrepreneurial spirit where they enter global schemes, competitions and projects to help prepare them for their place in global society. [Pupils]receive independent advice and guidance, so they are well prepared to make choices about their post-16 and post-19 choices.
“Governors and leaders work closely together with the shared vision that underpins their effective decision making. The Prep and Senior School work closely together to ensure smooth transition phases. Leaders support pupils to discover and develop their opportunities to contribute positively to the school and local community… Pupils are well prepared for life in British Society.”
The report reflects Framlingham College’s continued investment in people, facilities and programmes that prepare young people for a rapidly changing global world, while maintaining the security, care and personal attention that families value.
