NCS (National Citizens Service)

NCS (National Citizens Service)

More than half a million 16- and 17-year-olds have done courses with the National Citizen Service, getting involved in their local community and building those all important “life skills” in the process. Programmes are based throughout the UK and are two or three weeks in length, with the latter including a residential trip of four nights. A government initiative, NCS works in partnership with regional colleges, clubs and charities. The well-designed website makes applying painless, and points young people in the direction of apprenticeships as well as the government’s “Kickstart” work scheme for 18-to-24 year olds. NCS Patrons are a worthy bunch, including adventurer Bear Grylls and General Sir Nick Carter, head of the Armed Forces.
